Senior Ruby Developer.

From our small office in an old monastery in Enschede, we help online retailers build a sustainable and profitable business. We do this by building high-quality, custom-made software and by providing honest advice to help them grow.

Now, we’re opening up a position for a senior Ruby developer. I say we, but it’s currently only me. This job is the first-ever position at Codeture and I am super excited about it.

The Job

In the role of senior Ruby developer, you’ll be working closely together with me and our customers. Our customers are high-profile, fast-growing DTC (direct-to-consumer) brands. They operate across the world. Most are located in North America, and some in Europe.

The job itself contains two components: developing and consulting. It leans way more toward building software. However, the truth is it sometimes depends. When we consult, we do it by staying honest. Always. Our customers appreciate our “Dutch” directness, value our informed opinions, and the fact we put them first.

We work closely with their existing ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), OMS (Order Management System), and POS (Point of Sales) systems. We extend them, we integrate them, and we improve (upon) them. Sometimes, we custom-build them. Many customers use Shopify as their e-commerce/POS stack, and some use custom-build software.

Previous expertise in e-commerce and retail will be helpful, but it’s not a prerequisite. Being more than proficient in Ruby and knowledgeable about Rails is important. The work we do is full-stack. So, a certain degree of proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is also expected.

It is also important to note that this job will be on-site / hybrid. As the first hire, I believe it’s important to work closely together. So, ideally, you live near the region of Twente.

About Us

Currently, it’s just me, but I hope that will change soon. I want to grow the team. Slowly and steadily. Just a tiny bit. The reason is that I believe you can do more with a small, but skilled team of people.

With a small, but expert team, I want to work towards making e-commerce more green, more profitable, and more sustainable. Small teams are better able to accomplish this compared to big teams. It is at the very core of a small team.

Small teams need to be experts, need to write durable code, can’t cut corners, and are forced to be truly honest in their advice. Because the higher the quality of work, the faster we are, and the more impact we can have. That is why Codeture always will stay small (in people). Think less than 7 people.

Being a small team also means that it is more than important to take a rest. That’s why we work 4 days per week, 8 hours a day. We don’t have “on duty” hours or extra work hours.

The Benefits

  • The salary is between €5.000 and €5.400 / month depending on experience.
  • You’ll get 5% on top of your salary to save for your pension.
  • Work equipment is provided by us; MacBook, monitor, Herman Miller Chair, etc.
  • There is a daily lunch at the office.
  • You work 4 days a week (8h/d) and get paid 5 days a week.
  • Take up to 22 days off during the year + the national holidays.

Responding to the job post is only possible if you are a Dutch citizen, an EU citizen, or in possession of a TWV work permit for the Netherlands. We’re not able to hire across borders or sponsor a visa, so you should already be living in the Netherlands.

To apply for this job position, write an e-mail to Make sure to include your CV, but more importantly a cover letter. I’m looking forward to meeting you.
